wind and hills

rode with Tom and Rhiannon today, 31.5 miles. I think I probably should have ridden slower, keeping it under 20mph. I guess I didn't feel comfortable asking them to slow the pace.

it was low 60s F and windy, so I actually wore knee warmers. A big contrast to yesterday. We rode out the Greenway and then did some looping around south and west of Scottsville, then came back on River Road. Some of the hills just south of the entrance to RIT were pretty fun.

moment of the day: riding backward up the hill that is just after the end of the 10mi TT course, there was a line of little birds the entire way across the road. nature's finish line.

riding with Yellowjackets

Rode with Drew and Bernie from the UR team in the early evening. 36 miles, including a few sprints. Otherwise pace was pretty easy.

That white shed I rode past yesterday definitely appears to be a bee shed. There were also several people selling produce on the side of the road. And a hawk on a power line out where we were doing sprints.

riding in a new place

well, I've been in Rochester, NY for three days now. I've ridden 20, 24, and 24 miles the last three days, and I'm feeling pretty good. Actually, since I fixed the shimming for the cleats, I felt way better on my ride this morning.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm going riding with one of the riders from the Rochester team. Hopefully this will be a window on to some more competitive racing, even if most of that won't come until the spring. Still, to be riding with other people who are serious but not way above my lever will be a real treat, I think.
