post-field trip run

ran across the pedestrian bridge and campus, hopped a fence, and ran up and down hills in Mt. Hope Cemetary. Circled back and came home for 38 minutes with avg HR of 139. Probably at least 4 miles. Strangely, when I run a little faster than really slow, my knee actually feels much better.

the weather cometh

5 minutes into my ride, the heavens opened up. Ah well--once you get wet, you don't really mind getting more wet. And the weather has been so nice for so long that I suppose a little wetting was in order so that I didn't become a fair-weather cyclist. ride was 1:30, 23 miles, average HR of 122 despite some good tempo riding.

Wednesday for cross-training

played ultimate for ~2:00. good practice.

back after a break

so today was the first day I rode since last Tuesday. I ran a bit, but going to Acadia for Tara's wedding sort of was a period without much in it.

Anyway, rode 25 solo miles in ~1:30. Got my HR monitor, so average HR was 131.

a little of this...

sort of a haphazard ride, but turned out well. 27 miles, part solo, part in a group. Worked on spinning a higher cadence, but no drills. I also pulled the shims out of my right shoe, and it felt so much better. Time will tell, but hopefully no shims will be the situation for the long term.

I won't ride for a few days, as I'm going to Tara's wedding, but I can run and keep doing yoga in the mornings.

easy Monday

rode 24.5 miles with Ben, nice and easy. Worked on cadence a bit. Nice evening to be out. It is definitely getting darker earlier these days.

long slow miles

rode 3:15 today, 53 miles or so, on my own. Kind of nice to ride solo for the first time in a while. It was a lovely fall day out--sunny but in the 50s. Rode over to Honeoye Falls and back, with a fair bit of embellishment. saw a bounding white-tail deer and a monarch butterfly out in the sunshine. On the ride I did some work on high cadence, both generally and with some one-legged drills. Worked on my right ankle/foot especially, as it has a tendency to go up/down and not much else.

working on the meaning of easy

Rode in a group of six today, 2:15, 32 miles. Very nice and slow. Had a good talk with Bernie about some of the things that he's going to have me work on in the upcoming weeks--cadence drills, one-leg pedaling, weights, that sort of thing. Next week will be an easy week before starting my first organized block. Good stuff!

beautiful macadam

rode with Nate this morning, about 2:20, 37 miles. We went east of Scottsville-Chili Rd. and found some road construction, but also beautiful new pavement on a number of roads. I think I'll ride out that way more.

And it was a perfect day for riding. High 50s (knee/arm warmer weather) with the sun out and just a bit of a breeze. My legs were pretty tired, so it was an easy ride, but that's what it should have been anyway.

cross-training day

Yesterday (Wednesday) I ran in the morning, ~38 minutes. Was supposed to meet Drew and Ian, but I didn't find either of them, so I went by myself. Turns out Ian couldn't make it and I ran into Drew at the very end of my run--I guess we just missed each other.

played ultimate, ~1:30, in the afternoon.

fun with drills

so today was a great fall day for a ride. A bit cool, windy, but sunny. 31 miles with Drew, Ian, and (for the first part) Bernie. Did some easy tempo work as a paceline, one short harder tempo, and a small-gear sprint (definitely my favorite for the day). Then Drew decided he needed to get back in a hurry, so he pulled Ian and I for a while at 25 mph. Then easy back up River Rd.

a double flat?

rode 31.5 miles with Ian today. easy-moderate pace. On the way home, Ian double-flatted. I blame it on crappy Kenda tires (he flatted last ride too).

running and ultimate

went on my first run for a long while, and it felt good. ~4 miles with Ian and Drew, north along the Genessee, then east and south through Mt. Hope cemetary and then home. and then a quick shower and dash to class...

also played ultimate for ~1:30 in the afternoon. play was much better this time, both the general organization of the game and also my playing. of course, last time I had 40 or 45 miles in my legs.

tardy entry

yesterday, Tuesday, rode 29.5 miles with Drew and Ian. Fun ride--did three uphill sprints and three downhill ones. A sprinter I am probably not destined to be, but still great training for other aspects of riding and racing.

it actually got pretty cool on the way home--glad to be wearing knee warmers. autumn approaches!

cool moment of the day: we saw a pretty large hawk three or four times, the last of which it flew along parallel to the direction we were riding, so I got to watch it for a while.

windy out there

definitely was today. rode various loops out in the TT area, 30 miles in 1:45. There were four of us, Ben, Gavin, and Matt (formerly of Colgate), but all new, so I actually was the only one that knew the route. I also spent a large amount of time on the front, which was fine with me. Gavin flatted partway through, which actually was pretty funny for some reason.

Gavin is one of those naturally talented people--I hope he keeps riding with the team. He's pretty dang strong already, with little training and clips he was keeping up no problem. Definitely in waaay better shape than I am. Something to work towards.

good base miles

rode with Drew, Heather, and Ben, south and then east out to Menden Pond. 45 miles in 2:45, some nice easy base miles. The day was beautiful--hard to ask for better riding weather. had a few near encounters with squirrels and groundhogs (at least the latter don't change direction after running in front of you), but no one got hurt.

also played ultimate later in the day, around 4pm. approx 1:00, good cross training, I suppose, but crappy pick-up ultimate.
